Family Formation is a unique K-6 Catholic family catechesis program written by parents and supported by the Church for use in families, which promotes parents as the primary educators of their children in the Catholic Faith. Family Formation is a tried-and-true curriculum developed by regular parents with normal family lives. The materials are engaging, down-to-earth, and easy to understand. Through games, quizzes, stories, and music, solid Catholic teaching is transmitted, and the Faith is brought to life within the family. Since its beginning, Family Formation has grown to serve thousands of families all over the United States and Canada.
There are two components…
In the Parish. Families come together once at the beginning of each month from 10-11:45 am on Sunday morning at St. Edward’s Parish Hall. Trained catechists teach the children in grade-level classrooms while parents attend an adult teaching on the same topic as their children. Parents are then sent home with the lesson materials they will need for the rest of the month to teach the Faith to their family.
In the Home. At the heart of Family Formation is the domestic church (you and your family). Weekly home lessons provide the backbone for your children’s spiritual formation and cover the major principles of our Catholic Faith. Pope John Paul II said, “Families become who you are.” The teachings in the Home Lessons help you become the domestic churches you are called to be. By devoting approximately one hour per week, three weeks out of the month (Sept-May) to the home lessons, faith within your family will soon become a way of life.
Lessons include hands-on activities for the whole family, memory verses, audio CDs, stories, games and seasonal booklets to aid you in developing family traditions that incorporate the liturgical seasons of the Church.
